Lenten Bible Study
All of us deal with times of doubt in our lives where our faith is challenged. This study will focus on one of the central symbols of our faith: the work of Jesus on the cross. What did Jesus's dying on the cross mean? Why was the cross necessary, and what does it mean to us today? What is it about the way Jesus died that offers salvation for us? Why did Jesus do what he did, and what does that mean for us? And how can answers to these questions help us as our faith stretches and grows? Throughout history, the church has developed numerous answers to these questions under the broad theological term atonement. No single image or framework can possible capture a mystery as great as Jesus's death on the cross, so we'll be examining several of them.
This book will not only be useful for anyone who wishes to understand the meaning of Jesus's death, but also particularly helpful for anyone whose life situation is prompting a "crisis of faith" in relation to Jesus and the cross.
